ALBUM PREVIEW

Album Title:  M.G.C.N (Mtukampuni’s Glorious Choir of Nairobi)
A SHORT.WRITTEN.PREVIEW

FLASHIN’ LIGHTS  ft. Muna
We were rhyming, no we SINGING about never ever EVER giving up! Many relate to this.
Favorite line:
“Wait for the flashin’ lights”

ME NOT YOU
“Peace to the unique people”. I don’t live like you.
Favorite line:
“ You don’t even hang at gas stations and do nothing all night?” “No!”

SIJUI NINI
Hii si freestyle baby, hii ni freedom! A loose, random song!! A waste of the listener’s precious time. Sick!
Favorite line:
“me naangusha mizinga tu/ me nafanya Nairobi inakaa Kabul…

MTU FAKE ft. Julia ‘Mlami’ Clark & the Mtukampuni Choirette*
A dress down for hypocritical watuz! U love in the morning, no love in the evening…
Favorite line:
“akili imenona usidhani mimi sili (silly)”- GET IT?

STATEMENT OF FAITH ft. KOKAN
An unashamed, unapologetic musical documentation of one’s faith and belief system. Texture wise, a true fusion …benga, hip hop, R & B, wrapped in one.
Favorite line:
“mimeshika karatasi na kalamu/ kusifu 2nd adamu  juu yeye alimwaga damu….”

RUNNING BACK ft. Neema Ntalel
Another “gospel” tune and it’s a tuuuune!! Kora award winner Neema Ntalel jumps in on the hook and the track literally runs!! Sobering message too.
Favorite line:
“my mind’s roving I need a new range/ no not the car not that kinda change/ I  need a new  story, I need a new page…

SO FRESH ft. Qqu
Sounds soo local! A fresh intro to Mtukampuni with cryptic lyrics that few would instantly decode…it will take knowing Jobie (get familiar please) to decipher some of the lyrics…If Em murdered Jay on “Renegade“ , Qqu rewrites history on this. Sheesh!! Kuwa mpole bawse!…
Favorite line:
“…..me hapana mwizi/ hii hapana rubia  me hapana dickie/ kariakor me ni kama odo….” (see what I’m saying?)

MISS MUSIC
Acclaimed or not….more than an ode to music , a loyalty pledge to purpose . nuff said..
Favorite line:
“wrote a song for you coldplay yellow/u my favorite thang my yellow yellow…”

DAME CHAPO
Ka story ka…kadame flani jo...Basically narrates a ‘bad girl’ story- the type your mums warned you about…ring the alarm she’s by the corner!
Favorite line:
“hata nikipretend kuwa Bruno kama Borat/ huyu dame ni mkora she recurs like a chorus”
KILLIN’ IT
Death by rhyming! Old style hip hop bragging over a 3-chord progression and sampled drums MC’s gon’ die! Lol (no, seriously )
Favorite line:
“competition must beat it, kama Michael/jus’ threw a curve ball kama Maicon..”

ISEBANIA
This is what u get when u mix a mean guitarist and a hungry artist-…Isebania…. border-line psycho!! A grimy support to MC’s and rappers. It’s on!
Favorite line:
“I’m Deya’s son, I’m a miracle baby…”

GOT YOU ft. Lily Wamzi
Another song that offers hope to the “small people” just like M.G.C.N’s first single “Flashin’ lights”… The Lily Wamzi assisted hook is attention- demanding…brilliant vocals, lovely message.
Favorite line:
“in the words of God Jehovah/ the earth so shady needs to be taken over” …

MC’S AND RAPPERS
A piano-heavy intro to the “glorious show” that addresses rappers. Pitting them against mc’s, Mtukampuni  contrasts the two wittingly with a no nonsense flow and a melodious hook.
Disclaimer:  December31music shall not take responsibility for your not seeing the difference between the two…the line betwixt them is quite thin to most.. Understandably so….
Favorite line:
“nina range way bigger than a punch line/my album a HUMONGOUS punch line…”

*don’t bother looking up that word in the dictionary…

“A TEMPORARY SALVATION being offered the Kenyan hip hop industry”Jobie Mtukampuni
